Types of Rehabilitation Therapy
1. Physical therapy
This is a form of rehabilitation that aims to treat movement disorders. Through targeted exercises and various therapies, therapists work with patients to improve mobility, strength, stability, and/or functional ability and reduce discomfort.
This type of treatment aims to help the patient regain the ability to do basic daily activities. Among other treatments, it can help patients learn how to use adaptive equipment to improve functional capacity, improve fine motor skills, and restore balance.
3. Talk therapy
Speech therapy is physical therapy used to treat speech, communication, and/or swallowing problems.
This treatment is used to help patients with respiratory diseases or problems. The goal is to reduce respiratory distress, maintain an open airway, and teach patients how to use inhalers and supplemental oxygen when needed.
5. Educational therapy (also known as cognitive therapy):
Patients who receive this treatment experience improvement in memory, thinking, and reasoning skills.
6. Vocational training
This treatment helps people return to work after an illness, injury, or other medical event.
There are many healthcare settings where all types of rehabilitation therapy are available. These include residential care centers, outpatient care centers, and home care programs.
